Elevator Security Cameras
Elevator security cameras are a little tricky to install compared to other cameras you install in a structure. In order to install a wired security camera in an elevator, the elevator needs to have a traveling cable. This is an analog cable that goes from the cab of the elevator to a termination point which is most likely on the top floor of the building. Most newer elevators have a traveling cable.
In case there is no traveling cable for the elevator camera, you have the choice of have the elevator company run a traveling cable or install a wireless elevator camera. In New York City it costs $7,000 to $8,000 to run a traveling cable for a single elevator cab. Second option is to install a wireless camera in the elevator cab. Most of our customers choose to install a wireless camera specially designed for elevators.
When installing an elevator security camera, it is best practice to have an elevator mechanic stop the cab, making it safe for the installer to get in the cab and install the camera.
